Job Title: Research Engineer
Location: University of Victoria, B.C., Canada

Duties:

  • Design, fabricate and test fibre optic sensors to monitor near-surface and deep CO2 concentrations;
  • Design and fabricate laboratory test rigs;
  • Plan and execute field testing;
  • Support and coordinate graduate student research; and
  • Report writing.

Required skills:

  • Mechanical design and instrumentation;
  • Basic knowledge of fibre optic systems;
  • Written and oral communication; and
  • Teamwork.

Postdoc sought for collaborative project

Research groups at the Universities of Calgary and Toronto are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Energy and Environmental Systems Modelling. The candidate can choose to be located at either location - or to travel between both cities. He or she will conduct research on the life cycle implications of various greenhouse gas mitigation strategies that could be applied in the development of Alberta’s oil sands.

Experimental Geophysics Group, University of Alberta

Seeking graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who are interested in advanced characterization of rocks as well as measurements of the physical properties of rocks under conditions of pressure, temperature, and saturation relevant to CO2 sequestration. While a broad range of skills are sought, potential applicants are advised that hands-on laboratory and geophysical field work is a requisite expectation for all members of the Experimental Geophysics Group.
