CMC seeking researchers with expertise in flare/vent thresholds
CMC is responding to an RFP from the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada (PTAC).
The goal of the project is to assess the scientific rationale behind flare/vent thresholds in both conventional and unconventional oil and gas development. Do these thresholds change in different jurisdictions and, if so, what basis is used to determine those limits? Also, is there a break-even point where the greenhouse gas benefits of flaring may offer no benefit over simply venting due to the additional fuel required for the flare.
CMC has been invited to partner on this proposal with Blue Source Canada, a company developing greenhouse gas offset projects. They approached CMC because of its strong academic network. The results of this project will be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
