Programs & Services

CMC provides leadership to help governments, business and industry identify and accelerate the development of innovative technologies from the bench to large-scale implementation to reduce industrial GHG emissions. Through its comprehensive range of services, CMC helps clients identify practical cost-effective solutions to challenges, and make sound technology investment decisions.

CMC is a transparent, agile not-for-profit able to rapidly harness the expertise of a diverse network of domestic and international experts to collaborate to find and implement meaningful solutions.

Regional Energy Mapping

Waste energy in the form of heat represents a significant cost to industry and contributes to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Canada and globally. Understanding the quantity and quality of any waste energy leads to on-site energy efficiency solutions, regional deployment of this waste energy, and market diversification. CMC offers comprehensive program design services to governments and industries to map waste energy, provide technological alternatives, and support the implementation of solutions. Through our energy mapping processes, industry clients can improve competitiveness and increase efficiency by analyzing energy flows to identify and quantify heat loss. Pilot Projects

CMC will assist clients who wish to test new processes or technologies by pulling together consortia of technology vendors, end-users, investors, commercial partners, engineering firms and other experts to help with planning and implementation of pilot-scale projects. The comprehensive list of pilot project management services provided by CMC includes expert stakeholder involvement, site selection, budget development, and proposal writing for funding applications.

Performance Verification Program (PVP)

CMC Research Institutes helps assure clients they are investing in technologies that perform to promised standards. Through its rigorous Performance Verification Program (PVP), CMC provides reliable, robust third-party independent testing for early commercial or pre-commercial pilot scale technologies to assist in technology decision-making. Although the program can address other aspects of performance, CMC is primarily concerned with technologies that claim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Field Testing

Critical to the development and commercialization of any new technology is demonstration in real-world conditions. Field-testing and evaluation provides an opportunity for developers to showcase new technologies and assures purchasers, end-users, regulators, and investors the technology will operate as promised outside of laboratory conditions. CMC can identify and source field-testing facilities appropriate for a wide range of technologies and is also developing its own set of test facilities. The first of these, the Field Research Station (link to FRS page), offers clients the opportunity to test and refine measurement, monitoring and verification technologies for the subsurface storage of liquids, including CO2.

Scoping/Feasibility Studies

CMC’s scoping and feasibility studies provide clients with a high level assessment of the viability of a project or technology. CMC’s experts examine client needs, client wants and the intended outputs of a project. After a thorough assessment, CMC will report back with all findings including design details, cost estimates, technical and financial risk assessments, proposed schedules, and potential return on investment. In some cases, we may recommend alternative routes or technologies.

Facilitation and Engagement

CMC works collaboratively to develop capacity and tangible resources by providing research, design, expertise, education and leadership to help start-ups and established companies working in the field of GHG emissions reduction. We will lead you through planning processes as you work to develop strategic plans, or examine possible business directions, potential new divisions, business uses, and other project development. We also facilitate stakeholder engagement exercises focused on energy literacy or other sustainability directions.
