Carbon Management Canada, Inc. was incorporated in 2009 to advance technologies and insights that would radically reduce carbon emissions from large stationary emitters, with a focus on the fossil energy sector. CMC was the result of a successful proposal under the federal Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program that resulted in an NCE award of $25 M with an additional $25 M grant received from Alberta Environment. A further $2.5 M commitment was received from seven industry supporters.
CMC has awarded $22 M to a portfolio of 44 research projects and supports 155 researchers and over 200 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The company has built an extensive national and international collaborative network. One of CMC’s great strengths lies in its ties to researchers in numerous international organizations such as Ohio State University, the University of Arizona, the University of Queensland, the Stanford Centre for Carbon Storage, GFZ German Research Centre for Geoscience in Potsdam, the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre, the Korea CCS Research Centre, and the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) in Australia.
From this community of research excellence has emerged CMC Research Institutes, a federally incorporated not-for-profit company dedicated to accelerating innovation to eliminate industrial greenhouse gas emissions.
