+ DEEP DECARBONIZATION PATHEWAYS PROJECT, PHASE 2
On Dec. 3, 2015, a synthesis report of the Phase 2 Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project (DDPP) was released in Paris during COP21 meetings. DDPP is a global initiative to explore ways countries can decarbonize their economies while maintaining economic prosperity. Participating in the project, being led by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, are teams from 16 countries. CMC convened the team responsible for the Canadian section and is managing the process through its Low Carbon Pathways Group.

+ DEEP DECARBONIZATION PATHWAYS PROJECT, PHASE 1
The Deep Decarbonized Pathways Projects (DDPP) is an international modeling endeavor supported by teams of energy and techno-economic modeling experts from 16 countries. The goal of the project is to offer pathways to a low carbon world where societies are thriving and prosperous, and temperatures remain below the 2°C limit. In Canada, CMC organized a national team, with members from Navius Research and EnviroEconomics, to identify practical routes to a deeply decarbonized energy system. Phase 1 of the project was released in 2014.

+ ESTIMATING HQP DEMAND ASSOCIATED WITH INDUSTRIAL CARBON REDUCTION INVESTMENTS
In 2013, CMC commissioned Navius Research to undertake a study to forecast the expected distribution and timing of industrial investment in carbon reduction measures under different greenhouse gas (GHG) emission constraints, and identify the implications for Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) demand. The focus was on investment in carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the electricity, oil and gas extraction, petroleum refining and iron and steel sectors, as well as co-generation of heat and power in the oil sands.

+ PUBLIC AWARENESS & ACCEPTANCE OF CARBON CAPTURE & STORAGE IN CANADA
In 2012 CMC and the International Performance Assessment Centre for the Geological Storage of CO2 (IPAC-CO2) release a survey on the public awareness and acceptance of Carbon Capture and Storage as a tool to combact climate change. The online survey of 1,548 Canadians, commissioned by IPAC-CO2 with support from CMC, was conducted by Insightrix Research, Inc. between Sept. 27 and Oct. 28 2011.

+ COMMUNITY INTEGRATED ENERGY MAPPING FEASIBILITY STUDY
The Community Integrated Energy Mapping Feasibility obtained data from 16 industrial companies in the Strathcona County and Alberta’s Industrial Heartland areas near Edmonton to understand the energy flows and associated waste energy in the region. The project was a partnership between CMC Research Institutes (assuming operational leadership for study lead C3), Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF), and Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA). Project funding was provided to C3 by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and AIHA.
