Carbon Management Canada Inc. was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation under federal statutes in December 2009. The company is governed by bylaws, policies and procedures that align with the Networks of Centres of Excellence funding agreement.
Scientific leadership is provided by Scientific Director Dr. Steve Larter, Assistant Scientific Director Dr. Bernhard Mayer and the four research theme leaders – Dr. John Grace, Dr. John Shaw, Dr. Don Lawton, and Dr. James Meadowcroft.
Administrative offices for Carbon Management Canada are located at the University of Calgary. The administrative team is headed by Richard Adamson, Managing Director.
CMC’s principal governing bodies are its Board of Directors and Research Management Committee.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall governance of the network and as foremost experts in their fields, provide invaluable advice. Its members are from academia, industry, government, and NGOs. Subcommittees of the board include the Audit and Finance Committee, Nominating Committee, Network Development Committee, and Environment Committee.
The Research Management Committee manages the research program and provides ongoing assessment of all projects. It offers recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding research priorities and budget allocations and ensures a rigorous and transparent funding process. The committee comprises the Scientific Director, Assistant Scientific Director, Managing Director, four theme leaders as well as representatives from academia, government and industry.
